Meet: Dj Dynamiite
Nigerian-Born entertainer, Dj Dynamiite, dubs himself the “crowd controller”, and the name is fitting because for the past 3 years he’s been providing vibes worldwide and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. He’s already taken the stage in multiple cities in Canada, the U.S., Nigeria, Mexico and has plans to add on multiple countries to that list throughout the year, including Portugal and the United Kingdom. Dynamiite has been touring with Nigerian breakout star, Daniel Benson, known professionally as Bnxn and formerly known as Buju, and we got the chance to hear all about it and then some.

When asked about what touring with Bnxn was like, he went on to say “My first tour was actually last year in May with Bnxn and it was amazing. He was actually accompanying Koffee on her album release tour, which took place in the U.S. I learned a lot; I got so much insight on the music industry and got to see what really happens behind the scenes. It’s also helped me build my craft. There’s a difference between performing at parties and actually at shows with a large crowd which made me realize that I like to get up close and person with the people. I also connected with a crazy amount of folks and saw a lot of artists that I’ve been admiring from afar; For example I met Ckay and Ayra Starr, and saw other DJ’s who are also doing their thing, and I was able to take away from that. It was really cool, and it definitely took me out of my comfort zone”.
Other than being a DJ, Dynamiite is also an artist and entrepreneur. We asked him about "Big Fest"; which is an entertainment company ran by him and some of his friends. They recently hosted the Canadian tour for U.K. based rap group, NSG. “Big Fest is actually a company I started with a couple of my friends in 2021; it started as a pop-up, and our goal was just to create a space to blend fashion, food, arts and music. We were just providing different experiences and creating a platform for new artists and entrepreneurs to showcase themselves. Big Fest now has multiple branches such as the touring side, pop-up side, the party side, and the concert side. With time we want it become a household name in Canada, and then have plan to expand to other countries. We’re just trying to create an environment where creativity and excitement thrive”.

We dove into the topic of his own artistry soon after, beginning with how his newest single “Priscilla” feat. Boybreed and Minz, came to be. “One thing that I’ve been planning on doing is dropping music. I always try to be unique, I didn’t just want to be a DJ. I always wanted to break out because I look at myself as an entertainer; I dance, I play instruments, I produce, and am an entrepreneur as well. When I went back to Nigeria, I connected with many creatives out there and when I said I wanted to start dropping music, I wanted to highlight a lot of the avant-garde sounds coming out of the country, because there are so many solid artists in Nigeria. I have a friend called Zion Uti, and he’s the one who introduced me to Minz and Boybreed” he went on to say, “The vibe was really organic. We didn’t even get to do the collaboration while I was in Nigeria, I had to A&R the whole thing from over here, thanks to technology. I just wanted something catchy that I can play in the club. It didn’t need to have a particular meaning, just something the people can vibe to, you get me? They sent the first demo, I adjusted a few things on there and yeah… “Priscilla” is going. We’ve been getting a lot of love, and there is definitely more music coming!”
Dynamiite’s career is only getting started, and he is already off to an incredibly strong start. When asked what he hopes to accomplish with his career, he responded by saying “I’m actually on a mission to become Canada’s ambassador in the world of African music. I see that the Canadian market is actually untouched. I know people always say there’s a big afrobeats community in other places and stuff, but I feel like Canada is somewhere that’s underrated. We actually have a massive community but there’s nothing here that’s actually brought the community together. I want to be that person, and just keep doing amazing stuff”.

When asked what we can expect from him in the next few months, he said “In the next few months, I’ll just say big vibes. There’re more tours, more shows, music festivals and I’m obviously going to be promoting my music. You might even see a new song with like, an artist that you guys know well… You might see one, but I don’t wanna speak too much on that one. Just more excitement, basically!”
Dj Dynamiite is a force to be reckoned with and has made it clear that there’s nothing that can stand in his way. At the end of the interview, Dynamiite went ahead and dropped some gems for us, “Do your thing the way you feel is best. Everyone has their own approach to doing their own thing. And in most cases, it’s not always about the talent. Especially in the entertainment industry, it’s more about the branding and the marketing… I mean talent speaks, but there’s so much that goes behind it. But I’d say don’t think about it too much, just do what you have to do and make sure you’re putting the best into whatever you’re doing”. We know that’s right!
