Meet: Bernie and Yasmine

Community and Fashion go hand-in-hand, and the founders of Faux Pas Canada have a premise to build a platform that gives us incredibly cute outfit inspo, but also brings people together through expression, and not just through our clothing. With the goal of curating community-geared events like discussion panels, pop-up shops (second-hand clothing sales), and eventually a live podcast event, Bernie and Yasmine have laid out the foundation for their fashion conglomerate.

After meeting in person for the first time in April of 2021, Yasmine, who is a fashion stylist, professional model and art director, and Bernie, who is an art director, Fashion stylist and writer/poet (talk about being multi-faceted), hit it off instantly. They spoke about everything under the sun and within a week of meeting each other, decided to start "The Fashion Faux Pas" podcast, of which the two recently wrapped up season one. “Within a week or two of meeting each other we had a logo, a name and a niche. As our friendship bloomed through this venture, Faux Pas became its own individual brand”.

When asked about the biggest takeaway from their journey so far, Yasmine responded by saying “my biggest takeaway from this journey so far is that we have done well for ourselves for starting so small and we are very loved by our community”. And indeed, they are; The Faux Pas founders hosted a SOLD-OUT event in celebration of their first season! Talk about a turn out! They had many local acts take the stage as well. Bernie’s response to the question was a little bit different, as she said “For me, more than anything, this journey has been validating. It really helped me gain confidence in myself and my ideas, and the way that I can express them both on the platform, but also with Yasmine”.

Yasmine and Bernie have made it clear that they are here for the people as much as they are for the looks, as they hope to not only bring awareness to local businesses, designers, and creators who don’t have enough visibility for their craft, but to hopefully influence people to simply be themselves. When asked how they hope to impact the fashion industry, Bernie responded by saying, “I’m not the type to think much about how I can or if I am even impacting people or the industry. I do believe however, that the biggest service we can do for ourselves and others is living in our truth. And whatever they accomplish, regardless of my/our impact on them… they already had it in them”.

The dynamic duo recently wrapped up season one of “The Fashion Faux Pas” podcast, where they talked about everything from the mental health to the latest trends. They are currently working on season two of the show, and both said that we can expect an “elevated version of what you saw in season one; We will be incorporating more video content and will have some very exciting guests”.  Be sure to keep up with Bernie and Yasmine on Instagram (both of their accounts are very aesthetically pleasing), Follow "Faux Pas Canada", and you can listen to season one of “The Fashion Faux Pas” podcast HERE!
